The
Story

In 2013, I was diagnosed with a rare neuroimmune condition where my immune system attacks my body and causes paralysis episodes (yes you read that right). My whole life I dreamed of working in sports because I noticed how much happiness it brought to people. Fast forward to 2023, I made it to my dream job in the NFL. Sadly though, I had another neuroimmune episode that had permanent consequences to my body. I had to let go of everything I knew and figure out a new way of living life with a body that was no longer capable.
Living with a chronic condition taught me how great of an impact it was when someone checked in on you. The feeling of belonging when we are included with others, which means even more than it ever did before. A little kindness was inspired by care — a friend’s time, a stranger complimenting your style, even receiving a hug.
Kindness can be a learned trait, but sometimes we may forget how much of a difference it can make in someone else’s life. I wish I could repay so many people who have shown me kindness throughout the years. So I thought about how my favorite comforts brought a similar feeling of care, with a flickering candle and enchanting gifts. To give the same feeling as a reminder that a little kindness matters most, thank you.
